A photograph. Taken with intention. Shared in support of mental health awareness.
Professional or beginner. Camera or phone. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you went out and created something.
Daniel J. Photography didn't start out as something that was going to save my life.
But somewhere along the way, it became part of what did.
There was a time in my life when I wasn't looking for sunsets. I wasn't looking for wildlife, reflections, mountains, or the little moments most people walk past. I was just trying to survive.
Recovery gave me another chance at life. Photography helped teach me how to actually see that life again.
Behind the camera, I learned to slow down. I learned to chase light instead of darkness. I started noticing things I once would have walked right past — a sunset breaking through the clouds, an eagle overhead, the first light coming across a lake.
And eventually I realized I wasn't just taking pictures.
I was collecting proof that there was still beauty in a world I once wasn't sure I wanted to be part of.
That's what I hope someone sees when they look at this photograph. Yes, it's a sunset. But to me, it's also another reminder that I stayed long enough to see it.
Photography didn't save me by itself.
But it helped me find a life worth photographing.

Hi, my name is Paul, and I’ve been a photographer for about 52 years. I started taking them when I was young with a Kodak Box Brownie, and I slowly moved on and up.
My main thing is landscapes, wildlife, astrophotography, and aircraft. I just enjoy taking photos. It gets me out and into my calm zone, so I hope you all enjoy.
This image was taken on Folly Beach, SC, about 30 minutes before sunrise. 200 shots at 16 sec, f/8, ISO 2400, Nikon D500, 14mm f/2.8, stacked in Photoshop.
"I really think using photography as a way to help mental health is such a powerful thing happy to contribute"
Tammie: After my feelings were hurt by someone saying they could get the same thing with their phone, I tried again just for me. This image made me feel instantly better. https://lun4trik.myportfolio.com/
I'm not a great photographer I just enjoy sharing my work with people, with the goal of making their day a little brighter
